Methods of seminars’ carrying on the specialty "Pediatrics" at the Department of Pediatrics ESI of PGrS

Аннотація


 

Resume. At present higher medical education is focused on problem-based learning and requires fundamentalization - dynamic development, active introduction of new forms of teaching, use of information technology. Today, the national pedagogy uses a number of different techniques that include stimulation technology (workshops, trainings, using phantoms, dummies with system simulation devices used in providing emergency care); technology distance learning (online platform, university portals); use of interactive methods in education (interactive studying method, the method of competing groups, project method, a method of practical training method of cooperative groups, the method interdisciplinary conference ideas, brainstorming method, etc.). The article concerns the methods of seminars’ carrying at the Department of Pediatrics ESI of PGrS. The peculiarity of these classes is diversity (process of training deals with a large number of medical students and interns from various specialties), and a variety of subjects and forms of employment.

Introduction. Introduction of new modern forms of teaching stimulates creative thinking in teaching, developing educational culture of a lecturer, completes its image, professional competence and encourages self-education and self-improvement. In turn, this innovation solves problems of psychology in intern’s and trainee-doctor’s activity which motivates learning activities for self-improvement guides, develops leadership skills and improves studying in general.

Aim. Shown in the introduction of new methods of conducting seminars? Maintaining academic approach.

Materials and methods. The organizational structure of seminars is conducted at the department:

Illustrative material for seminars, multimedia presentations, tables, annotations to drugs, guidelines, manuals, periodicals (Ukrainian and English articles, clinical cases), operating instructions, excerpts from the stories disease.

Determining the level of theoretical training of doctors is carrying out during the discussion of situational problems, parsing patients, discharging prescriptions.

Sources: main (guides for the past 5 years operating instructions) and additional (specialized literature publications for the last 7-10 years).

Results of discussion. The Department of Pediatrics ESI of PGrS teaches discipline "Pediatrics" for interns in specialty "Pediatrics" and medical students of the specialty "Pediatrics." Moreover course "Emergency conditions in pediatrics" is given to interns on specialties "General practice family medicine", "Internal Medicine", "Surgery", "Traumatology Orthopedics," "Medical emergency conditions." Also, existing work programs are taught to interns in specialty "General practice family medicine" (course "Occupational health of children"), for interns in specialty "Anesthesiology and Intensive Care" (course "Children are anesthesiology, intensive therapy") and for interns in specialty "Obstetrics and Gynecology" (cycle "Neonatology"). Course subjects for medical students at the department includes the following areas: PATS specialty of "Pediatrics," PAC for medical students of the specialty "general practice family medicine."

The program also suggests courses of advanced training for pediatricians "Current issues pathology early age", "Issues in Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergology", "Issues in Pediatric Gastroenterology", "Issues in Pediatric Nephrology."

In addition,it should be noted that training is organized under developed programs with specialization "Emergency conditions in pediatrics" for medical students of the specialty "General practice - Family Medicine" and the medical students of the specialty "Medical emergency conditions" specialization for pediatricians and general practioners of the specialty "General practice - family medicine".

The department uses the modern approaches to the educational process - introduced various forms of seminars for interns and medical students, seminar-discussion (analysis of clinical cases, discussion of new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of childhood), seminars, conferences (preparation of reports on the topic of employment), seminars in the form of role-playing games (imitation concrete clinical case with a focus on communication with the patient), which are widely implemented form of interactive learning, which increases interest of students and improve learning efficiency.

The Department is following all innovations - during training medical interns it actively introduces new information technology in education, develops their communication skills. These students are always prepared presentations of clinical cases of rare and typical pathology in children, they optimize their self-learning enables further explore and present this pathology to determine the correct diagnostic and therapeutic tactics in each case, taking into account advanced global data in accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine .

Conclusions. The Department of Pediatrics ESI of PGrS has been introducing new forms of learning that are very positive for the lecturers and for the students i.e. trainee-doctors and interns. This innovation solves problems of psychology in lecturer’s activity, interns and trainee-doctor are motivated for learning activities for self-improvement guides, develop leadership skills and improve learning.

Prospects for further research. At the department will be introduced all modern methods seminars, information received on educational courses. All results will be shown in scientific studies.
