INTRODUCTION Vaccination has become a vital part of public health and disease prevention, and yet remains a controversial topic in our society today. This has contributed to increased life expectancy and improved quality of life, yet there are still parents who don’t approve Vaccinations for their wards.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate Parental Reasons for the Current Decline in the Vaccination of Children in Ternopil Ukraine.

STUDY DESIGN A questionnaire was printed and given to paediatrics patients admitted to the Regional Paediatrics Hospital in Ternopil from 29th of January to the 15th of February 2019. The questionnaire which included a list of important questions related to their belief, socioeconomic reasons and understanding of vaccination which were answered accordingly. The questionnaire consisted of 43 questions and was handed out to 44 separate parents of children from age 2 years to 16 years.

RESULTS Amongst this 44 parents, 23% had not received any vaccinations while 47% have not received the appropriate vaccinations for their age. Probing further on the reasons behind this we found that The major reason was that the parents believe that vaccinations are too risky for their children (34%) while some of them have little or no information on vaccinations (30%), 25% believe vaccinations are good but don’t have the funds to keep it up to date, due to religious beliefs and societal pressure 10% do not believe vaccinations are of importance and just 1% had an allergic reaction to vaccines.

CONCLUSION Vaccination is of utmost importance and so we strongly recommend more awareness programs on vaccination so parents (Mothers especially) would be informed on the importance of vaccination. If possible the messages should be streamlined and the message made really easy to understand even by a layman (UNEDUCATED PARENT). Also we recommend that media coverage of certain risk should be streamlined especially if they have not been proven. The government also should consider subsidizing the cost of vaccination so parents can afford it for their children.
